HOW TO SELECT THE PROPER PACKAGING

Blog

Packing, shipping and warehousing any product properly depends on the right box – but how do you know which one to pick? Well, that depends on what you’re planning on using it for, and also for how long. In general, cardboard boxes come in many shapes and sizes, and each one is designed to do different things, handle different materials, weight classes and freight conditions.

Lightweight

Best for packaging: small electronics, cosmetics, ceramics, plastics, jewelry, food products etc. If you are planning on packaging or shipping any lightweight item that could withstand being stacked or stored in a container with the approximate thickness of a heavy cereal box, folding carton boxes are relatively inexpensive, customizable and can be produced in big or small batches as needed.

Medium-weight

Best for packaging: medium electronics, single bottles, small to medium sized car parts etc.  If you are planning on shipping or packaging any medium-weight item that requires added durability for added weight, a litho-laminated box offers all the customization options of a folding carton box with the added strength of a corrugated cardboard core.

Heavy-weight

Best for packaging: large electronics, furnishings, large car parts, stonework, multiple bottles etc.  If you are planning on packaging or shipping any item that requires a heavy-duty box due to size or weight but still want the benefit of customized packaging, you will want to select a corrugated box and request that it be branded for you via a process called lithographic mounting.

Packaging Extras

Need a medium-weight box with a heavy-duty bottom? Try a strong but lightweight chipboard insert. Looking to keep multiple items separated? Request a die-cut partition that matches your batch number. Can’t find the right shape of box? Have one designed, die-cut, and glued to order!

Still not sure which packaging option to choose? Ask an expert!
